From “Gabby Gourmet Restaurant Guide 2010″

“In a strip on South Broadway, in the antique district, you will find Capital Tea, the most charming spot and worth a special trip. One room, small and comfortable, with a counter for ordering and a back wall of 70 varieties of fabulous teas, you will be delighted. First, the loose teas are wonderful, and displayed in stainless steel containers that allow you to purchase to take home. The prices are amazing and so affordable even by the cup that this alone will bring you back. The food is just wonderful. The menu is small but features a list of homemade sweets to please all. Scones, biscuits, muffins, tarts and all things divine complement the teas. The savories are just as exciting. The sandwiches area all prepared to order. The tuna curry and the egg salad with chives are worth the trip. Order plain on your choice of bread, or if you prefer, have them grilled Panini style. There is turkey, veggie, salmon and more. Lisa Biro, the charming chef/owner, happily assists in your selection of drinks as does the very friendly staff. Capital Tea is a real treat—with a Capital T!!! Head on over to South Broadway for a very special experience.”

From 5280 Magazine

“Don’t be deterred by the road construction that makes getting to this Broadway shop difficult. The serenity of Capital Tea’s smart, cozy space is more than worth the trip—especially when you order a C Tea Fizz. This reviving sparkler combines brewed whole-leaf black tea, flavored syrup (try the blackberry), and a splash of Perrier.” (Note: this review was written when South Broadway was undergoing significant construction)

From the Examiner

The laid-back charm of Capital Tea

“‘There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.’ This quote from Henry James can be found on several tea samplers on the counter at Capital Tea, and sitting there beneath an artistic lighting display I would have to agree. Though I’ve known of Capital Tea for quite some time, this week was my first time in and I was fortunate to be able to chat with the owner.  Lisa Biro is a delightfully warm woman, and very knowledgeable. Going into her fifth year of business on South Broadway, Lisa’s mission is to “provide beautiful tea and beautiful food” to her customers.

Capital Tea is a comfortable escape from the busy traffic of Denver, with understated natural decor and a cheerful staff. Whether you want to curl up on a comfy couch or work somewhere quiet with your lap-top, this place has a lot to offer; a relaxed atmosphere, WiFi, a kid’s corner complete with games, and an impressive menu. In addition to a well-rounded tea list, Lisa has an in-house bakery that whips up some lovely pastries as well as sandwiches and salads if you’re looking for some lunch. Her egg salad, made with smoky Lapsang Souchong tea, is just one thing that keeps the customers coming back for more. I didn’t have time to sample it, but I look forward to doing so soon.”
